Spanish singer Beret denies sexual assault allegations as concerts are pulled across the country
The Spanish singer was arrested on 11 June after refusing a genetic test, released with restrictive measures, and now faces a string of concert cancellations while his international tour hangs in the balance.
Arrest and investigation
Francisco Javier Álvarez Beret, the 29-year-old singer known as Beret, was arrested by National Police in Seville on Thursday, 11 June 2026. The arrest followed a complaint filed by a female fan who alleges she was sexually assaulted during an encounter in a Seville hotel in mid-April. According to sources close to the case, Beret's refusal to undergo a genetic test precipitated his arrest. He was brought before the duty judge at the Court of Violence against Women in Seville, where he exercised his right to remain silent and was released with charges.
Judicial measures and denial
The judge imposed precautionary measures: Beret is forbidden from contacting or approaching within 500 metres of the complainant, and his passport has been confiscated for three months. His management, Urbania Entertainment, issued a statement through his representative Andrea Momigliano, stating that Beret "categorically denies" the allegations.
The agency announced it had hired a specialised legal team and warned of civil and criminal actions against anyone who spreads false accusations. We are fully convinced of Beret's absolute innocence and we trust that the investigation and the procedure will clarify the facts and restore the truth.
Concert cancellations across Spain
In the wake of the arrest, several Spanish municipalities have scrapped Beret's scheduled performances. The Ayuntamiento of Rubí (Barcelona) cancelled the 26 June concert scheduled for its local festivities, while Armilla (Granada) pulled the 25 September show at the San Miguel festivities, citing a "zero tolerance" policy on violence against women. Elche (Alicante) suspended the 10 August appearance, and Monforte de Lemos (Lugo) called off the 15 August headline slot. Other festival appearances — in Tavernes de la Valldigna, Bilbao, Pontevedra, San Juan de la Arena and Marbella — remain uncertain.

Monforte mayor's own scandal
The cancellation in Monforte carries a layer of irony: the town's mayor, José Tomé, has himself been accused of sexual harassment. At least six women have filed complaints through the PSOE's internal channel, and the Fiscalía Provincial de Lugo has filed a querella against him for conduct in September 2025 that could constitute a crime of sexual harassment or abuse of public office. Tomé nonetheless moved swiftly to suspend Beret's performance, requesting the event organiser to immediately search for a replacement artist.
International tour at risk
Beret's international tour, "Lo bello y lo roto", is due to begin in London on 16 November, but that depends on the singer regaining his passport. The three-month confiscation period expires in September, leaving a narrow window for preparation. He had recently performed at a papal event in Barcelona, underscoring his high profile ahead of the judicial probe.
