Return to the stage in Nanterre

On Saturday evening, 12 September 2026, Céline Dion performed her first full concert in over six years before 30,000 spectators at Plénitude Arena in Nanterre, the largest indoor venue in Europe. The 58-year-old Canadian singer opened the evening with her 1998 single "On ne change pas", pausing during the song as emotion brought her to tears before she resumed. Dion appeared in several wardrobe changes throughout the night, including a pleated strapless black dress, a pink feather robe, and a leather corset dress.

The performance lasted nearly two and a half hours and spanned between 26 and 27 songs in both French and English. Accompanied by musical director Scott Price on piano, a live orchestra on a rotating stage, and a gospel choir, Dion sang French classics including "Pour que tu m'aimes encore" and "J'irai où tu iras" from the 1995 album D'eux, composed in collaboration with Jean-Jacques Goldman. Her English-language set featured 1990s ballads such as "My Heart Will Go On", "All by Myself", "I'm Alive", and "It's All Coming Back to Me Now". She also performed an opera aria by Vincenzo Bellini and concluded the concert with "S'il suffisait d'aimer" after briefly restarting "The Chase" following an early vocal miscue.

International attendees and public figures

The sold-out arena drew public figures from politics, entertainment, and media across multiple continents. Former US first lady Michelle Obama and television host Oprah Winfrey attended the performance, seated in the stands near Canadian country singer Shania Twain and Disney animator Andreas Deja, who travelled from Los Angeles. French political figures in attendance included former prime ministers Édouard Philippe and Gabriel Attal, alongside Paris mayor Emmanuel Grégoire. Dion's family attended in support, including her brother Michel and her three sons, René-Charles, Nelson, and Eddy, while long-distance ticket holders joined local spectators across the arena floor.

Medical hiatus and recovery milestones

The Nanterre concert opened a series of sold-out shows in the Paris region following a prolonged medical hiatus. Dion had not completed a full live tour set since 2020, when the Covid pandemic disrupted the Courage World Tour. In 2022, she publicly revealed a diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare and incurable autoimmune neurological disorder that triggers painful muscle spasms and rigidity. Prior to Saturday's concert, she had performed in public only three times since 2020, singing at a virtual charity broadcast, during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony on the Eiffel Tower, and at an Elie Saab fashion event in Riyadh.
