Decisive fourth day at Lord's

England secured a 194-run victory over Pakistan on the fourth day of the second Test at Lord's on Sunday, establishing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The result earned England their first Test series triumph since late 2024 and marked Joe Root's first series win as captain in over five years. Pakistan faced a target of 389 after bowling England out for 208 on Sunday morning. The visiting batting order faltered across the afternoon, falling all out for 194 inside 51 overs despite time lost to bad weather earlier in the match. Fast bowler Josh Tongue claimed the final wicket of Mohammad Ali at 5:45pm to seal the contest with more than a day to spare.

Early collapse and Robinson's bowling form

Pakistan's second innings began with an immediate collapse as Ollie Robinson and Jofra Archer removed three batsmen inside 43 deliveries. Robinson trapped Azan Awais leg-before-wicket on umpire's call and bowled Abdullah Shafique three balls later to reduce Pakistan to 7-2 in the third over. Archer followed by dismissing Pakistan captain Babar Azam when a sharp bouncer deflected off his helmet to Jordan Cox at third slip, leaving the tourists at 14-3. Although Shan Masood and Saud Shakeel survived until lunch with the score at 53-3, Robinson returned in the afternoon session to dismiss Masood and Muhammad Rizwan in consecutive overs. Robinson finished the innings with 4-24 and concluded the match with figures of 8-35 from 27 overs, taking his tally to 23 wickets across three Tests since his recall.

Shakeel's resistance and Abbas's milestone

Saud Shakeel mounted the only sustained resistance for Pakistan, batting aggressively to score 97 runs from the middle order. Shakeel missed the first century of the series when he holed out to the boundary off Tongue, ending Pakistan's hopes of extending the match into a fifth day. Pakistan batted with nine players in their second innings after opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq was ruled out due to a calf injury. Earlier on Sunday, Pakistan seam bowler Mohammad Abbas earned a place on the Lord's honours board by taking 5-57 to dismiss England for 208. Abbas concluded the match with nine wickets following his 4-73 in the first innings, while Dan Lawrence provided England's primary second-innings resistance with 54 runs.

Series context and upcoming fixtures

The Lord's victory followed England's innings win in the first Test at Headingley, confirming series success before Stephen Fleming begins his tenure as head coach. England built their position in London with a first-innings total of 290, supported by 61 runs from wicketkeeper Jamie Smith, 55 from Cox, and 45 from Gus Atkinson. In response, England dismissed Pakistan for 110 in their first innings behind 4-11 from Robinson and wickets from Tongue and Archer. Pakistan have now failed to score more than 194 runs in any innings during the series, having recorded a previous tour high of 171. The third and final Test of the series starts at Edgbaston on Wednesday, 9 September.
