Florentino Pérez promises record €150m 'galáctico' signing and Mourinho return ahead of Real Madrid election

Real Madrid's presidential election is set for Sunday, 7 June, and the campaign has turned into a televised battle of promises. Incumbent Florentino Pérez and challenger Enrique Riquelme have both used high-profile TV appearances to woo the club's voting members. Riquelme appeared on Antena 3's El Hormiguero on Wednesday, where he pledged to sign Erling Haaland. Pérez responded on Thursday night with an interview on Cuatro's Horizonte, hosted by Iker Jiménez, where he dismissed his rival's Haaland promise as a bluff.

The €150 million 'bomb'

Pérez's headline announcement was a club-record transfer offer he intends to make on Tuesday, after the election. He described the target as a "total galáctico" on the level of Cristiano Ronaldo, playing from midfield upwards, and not in the Premier League. He explicitly ruled out Michael Olise, Jérémy Doku, Harry Kane and Erling Haaland. The offer would be at least €150 million, the largest sum Real Madrid has ever paid for a single player.

The Vitinha and João Neves speculation

Spanish media quickly narrowed the field of candidates. On Cadena SER's El Larguero, pundit Álvaro Benito Villar said PSG midfielder Vitinha fits the profile credibly, given his Champions League-winning season and market value. Journalist Pacojó Delgado added that announcing Vitinha would be a knockout blow in the election. Other reports name João Neves, also at PSG, as a strong possibility. Both are Portuguese internationals who work with agent Jorge Mendes, who has close ties to Mourinho.

If Florentino wants to settle the elections, the announcement of Vitinha would be the final blow. A KO without even reaching Sunday.

Mourinho, Konaté and Dumfries confirmed

Beyond the mystery star, Pérez confirmed three concrete arrivals for next season. José Mourinho will return as head coach, with Real Madrid set to pay Benfica the €15 million release clause in his contract. Ibrahima Konaté will join on a free transfer after his Liverpool contract expires. Denzel Dumfries, the Dutch right-back from Inter Milan, was also named as an incoming signing.

Pérez anchored his spending promises in the club's financial strength, citing Forbes' valuation of Real Madrid at €10 billion, though he claimed the true figure is double that. He recalled that when he arrived in 2000 the club could not pay player wages, contrasting that with 66 titles won under his presidency and the club's current position atop financial rankings. The election outcome on Sunday will determine whether these promises become reality.
