Zverev, Swiatek and Osaka reach US Open fourth round as Anisimova exits

Zverev sweeps past Tabilo into fourth round

Top-seeded Alexander Zverev advanced to the fourth round of the US Open on Saturday night with a 6-2, 7-6 (7/2), 6-2 victory over Chile's Alejandro Tabilo. The world number two, who won the 2021 Olympic singles title and the most recent French Open, closed out the match on Arthur Ashe Stadium in 2 hours and 26 minutes during his third consecutive night session. Zverev had previously defeated Tabilo in straight sets in New York in 2025.

The three-set victory followed two demanding five-set matches for the 2020 finalist, who spent 4 hours and 53 minutes defeating Lorenzo Sonego before needing 4 hours and 33 minutes to beat Quentin Halys. Zverev encountered his only setback late in the second set when Tabilo broke back while the German was serving at 6-5. Zverev then dominated the tiebreak by claiming the final six points. He will face 22nd-ranked Luciano Darderi of Italy in the round of 16.

Osaka outlasts Mertens in three sets

Former world number one Naomi Osaka earned a round-of-16 place with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 victory over Belgium's Elise Mertens in a third-round match lasting 2 hours and 38 minutes. The 28-year-old Japanese player, seeded 13th and a defending semi-finalist from the previous edition, took the opening set with a winning serve. Osaka, who won the US Open in 2018 and 2020, struggled with consistency in the second set, recording 16 unforced errors.

Mertens, the 30-year-old world number 20, capitalized in the final set to take a 4-2 lead. Osaka responded by winning a break at love to level at 4-4, supported by nine aces across the contest, before breaking Mertens's serve in the twelfth game to close out the match.

Swiatek and Gauff progress in straight sets

Six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek secured her spot in the fourth round with a 7-6 (7/3), 7-6 (7/3) win over 26th-ranked Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic. The 25-year-old Polish player, who lifted the US Open trophy in 2022, required tiebreaks in both sets to overcome Bouzkova.

World number four Coco Gauff reached the round of 16 in New York for the fifth consecutive year by defeating Spain's Cristina Bucsa 6-3, 6-4. Gauff, the 2023 champion, recorded a first-serve rate of 49% against the 40th-ranked Bucsa, who was a round-of-16 finisher in New York the previous year. Gauff will meet either Alexandra Eala of the Philippines or American Iva Jovic in the fourth round.

Andreeva advances as 2025 finalist Anisimova exits

Reigning French Open champion Mirra Andreeva reached the US Open fourth round for the first time in her career by defeating Czech player Nikola Bartunkova in 1 hour and 38 minutes. The 19-year-old Russian, ranked fifth in the world, dominated the first set before capturing the second-set tiebreak with a down-the-line backhand. Andreeva had never previously advanced past the third round in Flushing Meadows.

Andreeva will face Austria's Anastasia Potapova, who eliminated tenth-ranked Amanda Anisimova with a 6-2, 7-5 victory. Anisimova, the 2025 US Open runner-up, had reached the third round after a three-set match against Austria's Lilli Tagger. Against Potapova, Anisimova committed 46 unforced errors, including 23 on her backhand, and converted 3 of 16 break opportunities before Potapova closed out the match on her first match point in just over 90 minutes.
