Northern Spain faces thunderstorms and hail as south sweats through building heat
AEMET forecasts a divided picture for Saturday 27 June, with stormy conditions and possible hail in the north while southern cities bake under clear skies and the province of Barcelona remains under a yellow heat alert.
Northern storms
Asturias, Navarra and parts of Galicia are expecting cloudy skies, showers and thunderstorms on Saturday, with hail possible in several areas. In Asturias, the state meteorological agency warns of "probable rain and stormy showers, occasionally accompanied by hail", while temperatures remain mild at around 25–26°C in Oviedo, Gijón and Avilés.
Probable rain and stormy showers, occasionally accompanied by hail.
In Navarra, the northern third faces similar risks, with strong or very strong wind gusts possible near thunderstorms. Santiago de Compostela will see light rain (around 0.1 l/m²) at roughly 10:00 and again at 17:00, with a low chance of storms during the day. The maximum in the Galician capital will reach 23°C.
Catalonia: yellow alert for heat
A yellow alert for maximum temperatures is active in parts of Barcelona province, though the city of Barcelona itself is not under the warning. Barcelona will see a high of 32°C (feels like 34°C) under skies that turn clear by mid-morning. Inland, Sabadell is forecast to hit 35°C and also remains outside the alert zone. Both locations will experience light onshore breezes.
Southern heat builds
Southern Spain continues to dry out and warm up. Córdoba expects a high of 37°C under partly cloudy skies, while Murcia city reaches 36°C and other towns in the region (Cartagena 31°C, Caravaca de la Cruz 35°C, Lorca 34°C, Yecla 35°C) will also feel the heat. Cádiz remains a cooler outlier at 26°C with clear skies and light westerly winds.
Weekend outlook
The unsettled weather in the north is set to ease on Sunday: Santiago’s rain clears by the afternoon and temperatures start to climb, reaching 29°C by Monday. In the south, the heat intensifies; Córdoba is forecast to hit 38°C on Sunday and 40°C by Monday, while Murcia and Barcelona stay hot but stable. Thunderstorm risk diminishes across most of the country, though Sabadell may see some cloudier intervals and a slight chance of rain on Monday.
