Tuchel responded to the attacking constraints by testing Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham in advanced positions during the second half in Prague. Bellingham wore the captain's armband after replacing Kane in the closing stages, operating as a central striker after previously featuring behind him. “I like him as a nine. Then he can contribute to both sides and overload the sides and doesn't affect so much of the balance. The 25-year-old winger completed a £69.3 million transfer from Newcastle to Barcelona in late May. His header in Prague came from a cross delivered by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who made his first start under Tuchel and his first England appearance since June 2025 after missing the 2026 World Cup. Kane commended the impact of the La Liga-based duo after the final whistle.

“I think sometimes going to a big club like that gives you more self-belief, more confidence. You feel like you belong on the biggest stage and I think he's taken that into his England performances.”

Gordon credited his adaptation to Barcelona's possession-oriented system for developing the tactical subtlety of his game beyond raw pace and pressing. Alexander-Arnold's defensive and crossing display in the deeper right-back position solidified England's control throughout the second half.
