French singer and actor Patrick Bruel cancelled his 35-date autumn concert tour on 1 September 2026 following weeks of public pressure and protests. The tour, which was scheduled to start in October across France, had sold more than 150,000 tickets. The 67-year-old artist announced the decision in a statement published on Instagram, framing the move as a step to prevent disruptions and protect audiences. His lawyer, Fanny Colin, stated on LCI that the production team had identified threats on social media involving potential intrusions and forced entries at venues.

The conditions are simply no longer met for these concerts to remain what they should have been: moments of music and sharing. I refuse to have the public and the teams targeted, so I make the choice of appeasement.

Legal proceedings and mounting allegations

The cancellation follows months of expanding legal scrutiny surrounding the singer, who is targeted by around 30 complaints according to a count by BFMTV. Bruel was placed under formal investigation in early June 2026 for cases involving rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment. French judicial authorities also placed him under the status of assisted witness in four other cases while imposing judicial supervision that did not legally bar him from performing. Allegations gained public visibility following an investigation published by Mediapart in March 2026 based on testimonies from eight women concerning events between 1991 and 2019. In May 2026, television presenter Flavie Flament filed a civil-party complaint in Paris alleging she was raped by Bruel in 1991 when she was 16. Actress Helena Noguerra has also accused the artist of sexual assault.

Municipal opposition and victim advocate reactions

Before the nationwide cancellation, local officials in several French cities voiced strong opposition to Bruel performing in municipal venues. Mayors including Arnaud Deslandes, the Socialist mayor of Lille, and Ladislas Vergne, the mayor of Chartres, argued that hosting the concerts was inappropriate during active criminal investigations. Bruel maintains his innocence and stated that withdrawing from the stage does not diminish his determination to defend himself in court.
