PSG signs Belgian forward Mika Godts from Ajax in deal worth up to €55 million

PSG completes double signing

Paris Saint-Germain announced the signing of 21-year-old Belgian forward Mika Godts from Ajax Amsterdam on Saturday night, hours after confirming the arrival of Spanish World Cup winner Ferran Torres from Barcelona. Godts signed a five-year contract running through June 2031 and will wear the number 22 shirt. The transfer fee consists of an initial €45 million, with up to €10 million in potential add-ons depending on performance objectives, bringing the total to €55 million. PSG had been monitoring Godts for several years and sees him as a player who can contribute immediately this season.

The move caps a productive day for the French champions, who secured Ferran Torres earlier on Saturday morning. Godts becomes PSG's fifth summer signing, following Maghnes Akliouche (August 6), Lucas Digne, Ferran Torres, and young Italian goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni.

Godts' development at Ajax

Godts began his youth career at RSC Anderlecht before moving to KRC Genk's academy in 2020, the same academy that developed Kevin De Bruyne, Thibaut Courtois, and Leandro Trossard. Before he could debut for Genk's senior team, Ajax recruited him in January 2023 when the winger declined to renew his contract with the Belgian club. He made his Eredivisie debut on April 9, 2023, against Fortuna Sittard at 17 years old, and recorded 9 goals and 4 assists in 25 appearances for Jong Ajax.

The 2024-25 season saw Godts become a first-team regular under Francesco Farioli, scoring 8 goals and providing 7 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions. His breakthrough came last season, when he registered 17 goals and 15 assists in 44 games, earning a nomination for the Eredivisie's player of the season award. He had also recorded 1 goal and 3 assists in the first four games of the current campaign before completing his transfer. In November 2024, Godts had signed a new contract with Ajax extending his terms until 2029.

International recognition and omission

Godts earned his senior Belgium debut in March and has two international caps. Despite his club form, he was omitted from Rudi Garcia's final World Cup squad, a decision that generated controversy in Belgium. The Athletic reported in June that Premier League champions Arsenal were among the admirers of Godts following his strongest season at Ajax.

PSG's attacking reshuffle

Godts arrives as PSG reshapes its attacking options following the departures of Kang-In Lee to Atlético de Madrid, Goncalo Ramos to AC Milan, and Randal Kolo Muani to Juventus. Bradley Barcola also faces an uncertain future, with Liverpool and Arsenal expressing interest. PSG value the France international at over £100 million, and he has appeared reluctant to sign a new contract while receiving less game time than he would like. The Athletic reported at the end of July that Liverpool were set to make an opening bid for Barcola.

Godts expressed his enthusiasm about the move in his first comments on the PSG website.

The Belgian is expected to compete with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on the wing, joining Akliouche and Torres as attacking reinforcements behind Ousmane Dembélé, Kvaratskhelia, and Désiré Doué.
