PSG sign World Cup hero Ferran Torres from Barcelona for reported €50 million

The transfer

Paris Saint-Germain announced the signing of Ferran Torres from Barcelona on Saturday, with the 26-year-old Spanish forward signing a contract until 2031. The fee was reported as €50 million by several outlets including Reuters and LaVanguardia, while France 24 cited a source close to PSG stating €45 million. N-tv, citing Sky, reported a range of €45 to €50 million. Torres had been under contract with Barcelona until 2027, and PSG's interest in the player dated from before the 2026 World Cup, according to France 24.

Torres arrives in Paris fresh from scoring the extra-time winner in Spain's 1-0 victory over Argentina in the World Cup final on 19 July 2026 in New Jersey, securing Spain's second world title. He also won Euro 2024 under Luis de la Fuente, alongside his new PSG teammate Fabian Ruiz.

Career at Barcelona

Torres joined Barcelona in 2022 after a brief spell at Manchester City, having come through the academy at Valencia. Across four and a half seasons in Catalonia, he made 207 appearances and scored 65 goals, winning three LaLiga titles, three Spanish Super Cups and one Copa del Rey. Last season he recorded 21 goals and three assists in 49 appearances across all competitions as Barcelona retained their LaLiga title. Over his final two seasons at the Camp Nou, he managed 40 goals in 94 games. For Spain, Torres has 25 goals in 65 appearances.

Reunion with Luis Enrique

The move reunites Torres with PSG head coach Luis Enrique, who gave him his senior Spain debut in a Nations League match against Germany in 2020. The two also share a personal connection: Torres was previously in a two-year relationship with Sira Martinez, Luis Enrique's daughter. Luis Enrique addressed the signing at a press conference.

Ferran is a player of international level, that we know very well, and I think he adapts perfectly to what we want: a player who can play anywhere in attack. We have players who are leaving, and it's important to find this type of player.

Torres expressed his gratitude in a statement.

Replacing Ramos and PSG's summer

Torres will wear the number 9 shirt vacated by Goncalo Ramos, who left PSG for AC Milan earlier this summer in a €75 million transfer after scoring 12 goals in 45 appearances. Torres is PSG's fourth summer signing, following the arrivals of French internationals Maghnes Akliouche and Lucas Digne and young Italian goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni. Capable of playing across all attacking positions and accustomed to possession-based football, Torres will compete for minutes with Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

PSG, five-time French champions and winners of the last two Champions League editions, began their season on Wednesday by lifting the UEFA Super Cup. They face Lens in the Trophée des Champions on Sunday, a match where Torres could make his debut. He participated in his first training session with the club on Saturday.

Barcelona's sale history

LaVanguardia placed Torres among the ten most expensive sales in Barcelona's history. The ranking is headed by Neymar's 2017 departure to PSG for €222 million, followed by Arthur Melo's €80.6 million move to Juventus in 2020 and Luis Figo's €60 million transfer to Real Madrid in 2000. Ousmane Dembélé joined PSG from Barcelona in 2023 for €50 million, the same figure LaVanguardia reports for Torres.
