Ukraine sends 600 drones at Moscow in one of war's largest attacks as Russia strikes Kyiv and Kryvyi Rih
Ukraine sent 600 drones toward the Moscow region overnight in one of the largest attacks of the war, hitting a Wildberries warehouse and killing at least six in Russia, while Russian missile strikes on Ukraine killed at least five.
Overnight drone assault on Moscow
Ukraine launched one of its largest drone attacks of the war overnight on Saturday into Sunday, with Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin reporting that 600 drones flew toward the Moscow region between Saturday evening and 6:30 a.m. local time (0330 UTC). Air defenses destroyed 201 drones over the region, Sobyanin said. Russia's Defence Ministry claimed it shot down 822 drones across western regions and occupied areas of Ukraine, though the Financial Times cited a separate ministry figure of 828. Sobyanin told Tass it was the biggest air raid on the Russian capital in two years.
Moscow region governor Andrei Vorobyov described the assault as "one of the most massive drone attacks in recent memory." An 83-year-old man was killed when a drone struck near Ramenskoe, a Moscow suburb. Three people were injured in Podolsk and three more in other towns. A fire broke out at a Wildberries warehouse in Podolsk, around 45 km south of Moscow, with video showing a large plume of smoke over the site. The warehouse, one of the company's main facilities serving the Moscow region, was the seventh of Wildberries' ten largest sites hit this summer and the largest still in operation, according to exiled Russian news site Agentstvo.

Fire Point claims responsibility
Ukrainian defence company Fire Point claimed credit for the strike on the Wildberries facility, saying its FP-1 long-range strike drones hit one of the company's largest logistics hubs. Ukraine has targeted Wildberries in recent weeks, accusing the retailer of handling military goods and selling components that could be used in drones and other dual-use equipment. The attacks have destroyed billions of dollars in inventory, raising concerns about the company's financial health and affecting thousands of sellers. Wildberries has offered compensation to affected sellers, and Russia's central bank has instructed lenders to restructure their debt on favourable terms.
In Domodedovo, near one of Moscow's main airports, a medication warehouse caught fire and several residential buildings were damaged. A school was also damaged in another locality. Moscow's airports were affected by flight alerts.
Russian strikes on Ukraine
Russia simultaneously attacked Ukrainian cities with missiles and drones. President Volodymyr Zelensky said a missile strike on his hometown of Kryvyi Rih killed two people and injured 14, though ANSA reported one killed and six wounded based on the regional governor. A combined ballistic missile and drone attack hit two industrial sites in the city, according to local defense council head Oleksandr Vilkul. One person was killed in Sumy, and two people, a man and a woman, were killed when a strike hit their home in the Zaporizhzhia region, said regional administration head Ivan Fedorov.
In Kyiv, authorities issued an air raid alert shortly before 2:00 a.m. local time, warning of a ballistic missile threat. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the city was "under ballistic missile attack" and urged residents to stay in shelters. One person was injured and fires broke out in non-residential areas of the Obolonsky and Holosiivskyi districts. Kremenchuk in the Poltava region was also struck.

Zelensky calls for air defense
Zelensky said Russia fired more than 1,550 drones, nearly 1,560 bombs, and 62 missiles and cruise missiles at Ukraine in the past week alone. He accused Russia of using North Korean-supplied missiles and urged allies to deliver air defense systems.
If North Korean missiles are destroying infrastructure and taking lives here in Europe, it must not be allowed that European interceptor missiles simply remain in storage.
NATO border incident and Rostov strikes
A Spanish F-18 fighter jet, part of a NATO patrol mission, shot down a drone that crossed into Romanian airspace at around 5 a.m. A NATO military spokesperson said the drone appeared to be Russian. Romania's Defence Ministry confirmed the incident.
In the southern Rostov region of Russia, five people were killed in a Ukrainian drone attack, according to governor Yury Slyusar, who said three cities were affected, with Kamensk-Shakhtinsky hit hardest. The Ukrainian General Staff said the Kamensky plant, which produces rocket fuel among other military components, was struck. Another person was killed in the Belgorod region when a drone hit a bus.
