Valencia Basket wins second Liga Endesa title, beating Barcelona 3-1
Valencia Basket defeated Barcelona 108-84 in Game 4 at Palau Blaugrana on Wednesday to secure the club's second Liga Endesa title, nine years after its first. Jean Montero was named Finals MVP after a dominant series.
Valencia Basket captured its second Liga Endesa championship on Wednesday night, closing out the finals series against Barcelona with a decisive 108-84 victory at Palau Blaugrana. The win gave Valencia a 3-1 series triumph and marked the club's first league title since 2017, both under head coach Pedro Martínez.
The decisive game
Valencia never trailed after the first quarter, building a 47-35 halftime lead and extending the margin to as many as 27 points in the second half. Nine different Valencia players scored in the opening period, while Barcelona relied heavily on Kevin Punter and Tornike Shengelia. The hosts struggled with foul trouble (Jan Vesely picked up three early fouls) and poor three-point shooting, and Valencia's depth and pace overwhelmed them.

Montero's historic finals
Jean Montero, the 22-year-old Dominican guard, was named Finals MVP after averaging 23.8 points, 5.5 assists, and a 30.3 efficiency rating across the four games. His scoring average was the highest in a Liga Endesa final in 40 years, and his efficiency mark was second only to Arvydas Sabonis's 35.0 in 1994. Montero shot over 60% on two-pointers and missed just one free throw in 26 attempts during the series.
I have a very good personal relationship with him. He is a good person who needs to settle because he is still very young. He has been incredible. When he came he was already good, but as a coach it is incredible to see the birth of a star.
Pedro Martínez's second act
Martínez, who led Valencia to its first league title in 2017, returned to the club in 2024 after stints with Baskonia and Manresa. In two seasons he has guided the team back to the EuroLeague Final Four and now delivered a second ACB crown. His counterpart, Xavi Pascual, returned to Barcelona in November 2025 but ends his brief tenure without a trophy, as the club finishes a third consecutive season without silverware for the first time in 49 years.
Barcelona's drought
The loss confirmed a disappointing campaign for Barcelona, which had forced a Game 1 overtime win but then dropped three straight. Jan Vesely played his final game before retirement, and the team's lack of depth was exposed as Valencia's rotation consistently found open shooters. The 108 points conceded were the most Barcelona allowed at home all season.
