Marvel reveals full X-Men cast with Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister at Disney's D23 convention in Anaheim

X-Men cast unveiled

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed the full cast of the upcoming X-Men film at Disney's biennial D23 fan event in Anaheim, California, on Friday, August 14. The untitled film, directed by Jake Schreier and written by "Beef" creator Lee Sung Jin and "The Bear" co-showrunner Joanna Calo, is slated for release on May 5, 2028.

The cast includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey (a role she debuted in this summer's "Spider-Man: Brand New Day"), Kit Connor as Scott "Cyclops" Summers, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver joined via video to announce his role as the villain Nathaniel Milbury, also known as Mr. Sinister.

Driver teased the crowd before revealing his character. "Kevin and I have been talking for years about my joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I think we finally found the perfect film," Driver told the crowd of 12,000 via video. He then joked, "So I'm very excited to be playing the role of Maaagneto!" before correcting himself: "even better, Nathaniel Millbury."

Feige noted the cast members had just met each other backstage for the first time. The X-Men's entry into the MCU was made possible by Disney's 2019 acquisition of Fox's film studio. The last X-Men film, "Dark Phoenix," was released in June 2019 under 20th Century Fox. Patrick Stewart, who previously played Professor X, will reprise the role in "Avengers: Doomsday" before Abbott takes over the character.

Other Marvel and Star Wars projects

Feige also showed footage from "Avengers: Doomsday," set for release in December 2026, which brings together the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Wakandan warriors against Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.

Ryan Gosling and director Shawn Levy presented "Star Wars: Starfighter," which will hit theaters in 2027 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of "Star Wars." Gosling is also attached to a Marvel "Ghost Rider" project. Disney announced an October 14 release date for "VisionQuest," a Disney+ miniseries created by Terry Matalas, with Paul Bettany reprising his role as Vision alongside James Spader returning as Ultron.

Pixar and Disney sequels

Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter announced "Incredibles 3" for a summer 2028 release, with the superhero family facing a new villain. "It's the kids turn," Docter said. "They've been sneaking out at night to protect the city."

Docter also shared details on "Coco 2," set several years after the 2017 original, with protagonist Miguel now a teenager. Benjamin Bratt, who voices antagonist Ernesto de la Cruz, appeared on stage. The film is scheduled for November 2029. "Ernesto de la Cruz is out for revenge, taking Miguel back to the land of the dead," Bratt said.

Disney unveiled "Frozen 3," which arrives in cinemas in November 2027 and picks up as Anna is getting married. First-look footage teased a new female antagonist whose identity remains undisclosed. Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, and Josh Gad performed, with Gad debuting a new song, "Ooooh, Samantha."

Other announcements included "Lilo & Stitch 2," "Ice Age: Boiling Point," an animated "Kingdom Hearts" series in development, and Jon Favreau's "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit" miniseries for Disney+. Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro, who took over in March, opened the event. D23 wraps up on Sunday.
