308 Italian coastal municipalities hit by 1,073 extreme weather events since 2010, storm surges up 550% in five years
Legambiente's 2026 Beach Report, compiled with the Città Clima Observatory, finds that 48% of Italy's coastal municipalities have been struck by extreme weather since 2010. Storm surges alone rose 550% between 2022 and 2026, while over 40 million square metres of beach have been lost to erosion in the past 50 years.

Raffaella Griggi named new host of Rai3's Chi l'ha visto?, succeeding Federica Sciarelli after 22 years
The Genoese journalist, an investigative correspondent with the programme since 2017, takes over the long-running missing-persons series on Rai3. Thousands gathered at San Francesco di Pegli church in Genova on Saturday for the funeral of marine scientist Monica Montefalcone and her daughter Giorgia Sommacal, who died alongside three others during a cave dive in the Maldives on 14 May.
