Country music icon Dolly Parton was interred on 28 August 2026 at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville, Tennessee, following her death on 25 August at age 80. The private funeral was attended exclusively by immediate family and close friends following what relatives described as a brief battle with cancer. Parton was laid to rest alongside her late husband, Carl Thomas Dean, who died in 2025 at age 82 after 60 years of marriage. Her resting place features an engraving of the Sevier County cabin where she grew up, alongside their wedding date. During the service, attendees played the country gospel hymn "If We Never Meet Again," a piece previously chosen by her father for his own funeral.

Announcement of DollyFest

Parton's estate and management company, CTK Enterprises, announced on 31 August 2026 that she will be commemorated with a two-continent event titled DollyFest: The Celebration of a Lifetime. The festival is scheduled to run across consecutive weekends in Nashville and London in 2027. Manager Danny Nozell explained that Parton had originally conceived the event to mark her 80th birthday in January 2026, though initial health challenges in August 2025 altered the production schedule. Organizers opted against holding a conventional public memorial, following Parton's personal instructions.

Tributes across the music industry

Fellow performers and longtime collaborators publicly honored Parton in the days following her death. Actress Jane Fonda, who co-starred with Parton in the 1980 comedy film 9 to 5, spoke on Democracy Now about travelling with the singer to visit impoverished communities across Arkansas and Tennessee. Fonda noted that Parton maintained complete respect for every fan she met.

Musical tributes took place across several concert venues. At New York's Madison Square Garden on 31 August 2026, country singer Kacey Musgraves performed her song "Rainbow" alongside a cover of "9 to 5." Musgraves had previously revealed at TD Garden in Boston that Parton inspired the ballad. In Nashville, Parton's niece Jada Star performed the collaborative track "The Orchard" at the Grand Ole Opry on 29 August. Across commercial rankings, Parton's compilation album Ultimate Dolly Parton returned to the Billboard 200 chart at No. 5.

Philanthropic scale and fortune

Parton built an estate valued between $450 million and $500 million, holding full ownership of a music catalog containing roughly 3,000 songs. In June 2025, Forbes valued that songwriting catalog at $120 million, anchored by titles such as "Jolene," "9 to 5," and "I Will Always Love You." Her commercial holdings also included a significant stake in the Dollywood amusement park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Because Parton had no children and was preceded in death by her husband, her extended family and estate representatives manage the distribution of her assets.

Throughout her seven-decade career, Parton directed substantial funding toward humanitarian causes, including wildfire relief in the Great Smoky Mountains, HIV/AIDS support organizations, Covid vaccine development, and the American Red Cross. Her flagship philanthropic endeavor, the Dollywood Foundation's Imagination Library, was founded in 1995 to honor her father, who could neither read nor write. At the time of her death, the program mailed books to nearly 850,000 children monthly across 1,600 communities spanning the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland.
