Two passenger trains collide in Białośliwie, Poland; 11 injured, rail line blocked until Friday evening
A PKP Intercity service and a Polregio regional train collided sideways near Białośliwie station on Thursday evening, injuring 11 people and suspending all traffic on the Piła–Bydgoszcz line.
What happened
On Thursday, 25 June 2026, at 18:04, two passenger trains collided near the station in Białośliwie, Piła County, Wielkopolska. The PKP Intercity service from Białogard to Warsaw Wschodnia and the Polregio train from Piła Główna to Bydgoszcz Główna were travelling in the same direction when they made lateral contact on a set of points. Three Intercity carriages and one section of the Polregio unit derailed. The impact damaged the points and other infrastructure, forcing an immediate halt to all rail traffic between Piła and Bydgoszcz.
They came into each other's loading gauge, simply while on the points or entering them. Three carriages of the PKP Intercity train and one section of the Polregio set derailed.
Casualties and response
Around 200 passengers were on board the two trains. Fire service spokesman Martin Halasz confirmed that 11 people were injured, three of whom were taken to hospital (two passengers to Chodzież, one crew member to Piła). No fatalities were reported. Passengers were evacuated to local fire stations and village halls, where they received assistance. Polregio later stated that none of the 20 passengers on its train were hurt.
Two trains collided (sideways). Eleven people were injured, including three passengers transported to hospitals.
Track closure and recovery
All services on the Piła–Bydgoszcz line were suspended immediately after the collision. Investigators completed their on-site work around 3:00 a.m. on Friday, after which technical crews began clearing the derailed rolling stock. PKP PLK spokesman Bartosz Pietrzykowski said that a specialist crane from an external company would be needed to remove two of the three Intercity carriages. The railway aims to reopen one track by late Friday afternoon or early evening, with a speed restriction of 50 km/h. Full repairs may take several days, and forecast high temperatures could slow the work.
We want to restore traffic on one track, still with a limited speed of about 50 km/h. We could do it on Friday late afternoon or early evening.
- Emergency services receive report of collision between PKP Intercity and Polregio trains.
- Firefighters, police and medical teams arrive; evacuation of about 200 passengers begins.

- Investigators finish on-site work; technical crews begin clearing derailed carriages.
- PKP PLK aims to reopen one track with a 50 km/h speed restriction (late afternoon/early evening).
Investigation
Poland's State Commission for Railway Accident Investigation and the Office of Rail Transport will examine the circumstances. Police have described the initial cause as a side collision during a track change by one of the trains. The infrastructure minister, Dariusz Klimczak, confirmed that the damaged points will be inspected further. Replacement bus services were organised for stranded passengers on the affected section.
