Tram and bus collide in Wrocław, four injured including child; one woman in serious condition

The collision
The accident occurred shortly after 11:00. The bus, a passenger van carrying a driver and two passengers, was crossing the tram tracks when it was hit in the side by the oncoming tram. The tram had only four passengers on board at the time. Emergency services, including police, fire brigade, and ambulances, were dispatched immediately. The intersection was completely blocked, and the damaged tram obstructed the tracks, halting all tram traffic in the area. Police appealed to drivers to avoid the vicinity and use alternative routes.
Injuries and rescue
Wrocław police spokesperson podkomisarz Aleksandra Freus confirmed that four people were injured. Two passengers from the bus were hurt: a woman who sustained serious injuries and a man with lighter wounds. From the tram, a woman and a child were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. All four were transported to local hospitals. An earlier report by RMF FM had mentioned three injured, but the police later clarified the total. The earliest alert from the city's crisis management centre had indicated one person was being resuscitated, though that detail was not repeated in later updates. The bus driver and tram driver were not reported injured.
Two passengers from the bus were injured, including a woman who sustained serious injuries. The other injured - a woman and a child - are passengers of the tram.
Transport chaos
The crash paralysed public transport in the area. Tram lines 8, 23, and 24 were shortened to the Kromera loop, and MPK Wrocław deployed replacement buses. Several bus routes, including D, 111, 116, 151, and 161, were diverted via Mosty Warszawskie. Heavy congestion built up on Brücknera, a key arterial road. By around 13:30, tram traffic resumed on Toruńska and Kwidzyńska, and the affected lines were expected to return to their regular routes shortly after. The disruption lasted over two hours.

A known danger spot
The intersection, located near Kwidzyńska street, has a history of collisions. MPK spokesperson Daniel Misiek told wroclaw.pl that drivers turning right must cross the tram tracks and need to check carefully for approaching trams. Previous accidents at this location have involved trams and MPK buses.
This is one of those intersections where drivers must be especially careful. When turning right, they cross the tram tracks, so they must make sure that a tram is not approaching from behind them.
Investigation
Police are investigating the exact circumstances and cause of the crash. No information has been released about whether any charges will be filed. The bus driver was not reported injured, and it is unclear if the tram driver was tested for alcohol or drugs.
