Character.AI files for bankruptcy, with Disney bidding $20 million for some assets
Character Technologies, which runs the Character.AI chatbot platform, filed for Chapter 11 in a federal court in Delaware on Monday, 12 October 2026. Disney is the first bidder for some of its assets at $20 million, and the platform will keep operating during the court-supervised sale.
